Rationalizing Disobedience

Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.  (Proverbs 3:9–10 NIV)

The fact that work can be profitable is one of God's great blessings. Everyone enjoys seeing their labor bear fruit.

Solomon instructed us to “honor the Lord with your wealth.” One way to practice this principle is to tithe. A tithe is ten percent. Both individuals and businesses can acknowledge their gratitude to the Lord for His blessing by practicing the principle of tithing, which lays the foundation for more blessing—“your barns will be filled overflowing.”

Consider what happens when we fail to honor the Lord with our wealth. Robert enjoyed the most profitable year of his business career. His company had record revenue and profit. The next year looked even better with two fat contracts that would potentially triple the performance of the past year. Though he knew the reality that his success was due to the favor of God, he rationalized his disobedience to the principle of Proverbs 3:9–10. Read the story or listen to the audio to learn what happened the next year and see the consequences of rationalized disobedience.

Here is your business tip: What principle of Scripture do you know, but are not obeying and instead are rationalizing your disobedience?
