Inherent in the culture of every organization is its view of people.   For many organizations, people are simply tools to be used.  But what does the Bible say about people?

Ephesians 2:10 teaches that people are purposefully created by God to do specific "good works." The common view is that "good works" refers to spiritual activities such as evangelism, teaching, and pastoring. However, the word translated works is ergon which refers to all types of work including business and artistic activities. And the adjective good refers to one of the attributes of God (See Matthew 19:16-17). Paul presented a view that people are purposefully created to do all types of work and that the work a person is assigned by God should reflect the nature and purpose of God.

Organizational performance is the collective product of the individual performances of the people in the organization. Wise leaders understand this reality. They also recognize God’s intentionality in creating people and develop a culture that seeks to help people discover the work that they were created to do. People have the potential to be world–class only when they do what they were created to do. Consequently, only organizations with cultures that help people become world-class have the potential to be world-class.
