Business Tips from a Biblical Worldview

The Key to Prosperity

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  (Joshua 1:8 NIV)

The above text instructed Joshua in how to be prosperous and successful.  The key was to meditate day and night on the Word of God. To meditate means to contemplate, to think about, to consider, to reflect on.  Joshua and the nation of Israel were to focus their thoughts and actions at home (by night) and at work (by day) on God's revelation.  Every action, every thought, every decision, and every problem was to be filtered through the values and principles of God's revelation to insure alignment with the character, nature, and purpose of God.  Living this way was the key to success and prosperity.

It is no different for us today. The key to success and prosperity is the same.  If we want to build excellent organizations, we must learn to live according to biblical values and principles.

Here is your business tip: The story of a man named Pepper is a great illustration of this truth. Pepper was a Christian who owned a fledgling company.  Living hand-to-mouth, he struggled just to make a living until he had a near-death experience that led to revelation from God about the truth of Joshua 1:8.  He then committed to operating his company based on biblical principles and built one of the great companies of the twentieth century.
