Every organization should wrestle with the question of the value proposition—the real value of the product or service the organization offers. In addition, organizations must wrestle with how the value proposition is delivered. For example, does the organization focus on
doing the right things?
or
doing things right?
or
doing the right things right?
Hopefully, you readily recognize that the wise answer is the third one—doing the right things right based on God’s definition of right.
The best way to discern God’s definition of right is scriptural guidance—discerning applicable principles—but there is also the need for discernment. Discerning the will of God requires humility and prayer along with sound Christian thinking.
Given sovereignty of God over everything, God defines the right value proposition for each organization to deliver. Furthermore, the will of God includes the ways that His will is executed. The value proposition must be delivered according to the ways of God. This means that God will be both pleased and honored by the delivery of the value proposition.
The only people who can consistently deliver this way are true disciples of Jesus. Such people are firmly grounded in Christ, which means they are obedient to the commands of Christ as revealed in Scripture. This enables them to define the value proposition correctly and deliver it with excellence. The predicate to this process is leaders and workers who have godly character.
In a fallen world where people are innately biased to narcissism, the impediments to achieving excellent character loom large. Therefore, for any organization to thrive in defining and delivering the right value proposition, there must be a culture of training for godly character in the leaders and workers.
The following is an indicator that an organization is maturing in its ability to define and deliver the right value proposition:
The organization has the right people serving the right people by delivering the right products and services in the right way in the right places at the right time for the right reasons.
Getting all seven traits right, can be a reality only when both leaders and workers display excellent godly character.
Here is your business tip. Wise organizational leaders seek to develop strong learning cultures that enable character development in all stakeholders. Excellent value propositions are defined by godly leaders and delivered by godly workers. When an organization’s stakeholders focus on character development, the organization can be the right people serving the right people by delivering the right products and services in the right way in the right places at the right time for the right reasons. This means that the organization is delivering its value proposition according to the will and ways of God; therefore, it will be doing the right things right.
